Scrimshaw Coffee

Scrimshaw Coffee

Scrimshaw Coffee is located in the college area In San Diego. Founded by Will Remsbottom and Roger Chagnon, who you can find making your delicious drink and ready to strike a conversation.

Walking in you can feel the simplicity of the shop, the setting is modern and casual. Their logo is painted onto one of the walls (I love that their logo is a whale) and their their tag line “Waste Time Together” is prominently displayed by their espresso bar, which is the actual definition of the word “Scrimshaw”.

Staying true to their brand – their coffee menu is simple and straightforward, catering to a purist palette by keeping the options simple and to a minimum. They do offer sandwiches, which I didn’t get to try this time around, but judging by the descriptions are going to be amazing. I will for sure be coming back to enjoy a bite along with my coffee.

Now to the best part…. The coffee. Scrimshaw uses Dark Horse roasted coffee. Currently they are in the works to develop a blend that is personalized for their shop and clients. This should be available early next year. During my visit I ordered a latte, which is served along with some animal crackers, which brought the inner child out of me. I thought this was a unique touch that made me enjoy my visit that much more. The latte was well balanced, smooth, strong, with a slight sweetness from the milk. I am really looking forward to visiting again once their personalized blend is available to taste the difference.

This shop is a very solid option. They have plenty of space to sit, hang out, work, or just relax. They are always playing great music that adds to their ambiance. Their coffee hits the spot, leaving you wanting to come back and doing it all over again.
