OB Beans is a local micro-roaster located in a shared vendor space in Ocean Beach. The space has the beachy feel you would expect out of OB, providing you with a relaxed placed to work or hang out. As soon as you walk in you can see their coffee roaster right behind the espresso bar, with sacks full of coffee beans waiting to be roasted all over the place. I loved it! The shop prides itself in working directly with small lot coffee farmers striking a balance between responsible and quality coffee roasting.
The menu is short, but with all the delicious offerings you would expect – upon request they can also try to make items not listed on their menu. For my first visit I ordered a few items to get a feel for their style and roast. The gibraltar was deliciously strong and balanced. Their americano was smooth and easy to drink, due in part to the blend they use for their espresso. On the iced front I tried their dirty iced chai latte – I loved that they didn’t hide behind sugar and instead chose to balance the espresso and chai, tieing it all together with some cinnamon sprinkled at the top.
I wish I lived closer to this shop, because I probably would be here at least once a week. The coffee, environment, and baristas make it just the right experience.
