Ironsmith Coffee Roasters

I found Ironsmith Coffee on my first trip to Encinitas a few years ago. Although Coast Highway is saturated with various coffee shops, for some reason the Ironsmith logo just drew me in. It was a great choice, from the moment I walked in I could detect the delicious scent of coffee being brewed. You are also greeted by a massive amount of delightful pastries, so you definitely cannot go wrong here.

The shop is located along the main strip of Downtown Encinitas, showcasing large windows and ample sunlight. You can enjoy your coffee in their beautiful location, or take it to go and browse the assortment of boutiques on the way down to the beach.  I found this to be a great place to get some work done, study, or just enjoy coffee with friends.

In learning more about Ironsmith for this post,  I found a tidbit that really caught my eye in regards to their bean selection process.  They’ve chosen to follow the coffee harvest cycle. Countries harvest their crops at different times during the year, which means that their bean offering will change with the seasons.  I not only found this fascinating, but this meant that I could go visit them throughout the year,  order the same menu item, and  get a totally different experience.

Ironsmith features a few different menus (check out the gallery below ). Walking in you will see a hanging menu which features your traditional espresso options. That list is pretty fun and it highlights the coffee to milk ration for each drink. By the register, you can check out a few other option, some of them on the more adventurous side. If anyone tries their “The 50/50” please let me know. I was very intrigued by this drink. They also offer a few different food and tea options for your enjoyment.

In our last visit this past weekend I tried their “3 Way Flight”, which I think is a great option if you like to try how Ironsmith approaches the basics. With this order you will get a cortado, an espresso shot, and drip. These 3 are my standard when trying a new coffee shop making it a perfectly yummy experience. We also tried their “Barista Special” which is their ice coffee served with milk and vanilla syrup. This is Jeff’s go here to since he likes his coffee on the sweeter side.

Overall this is a great place to come and enjoy your coffee. Their level of care and offering will definitely have you coming back for more.
